Instagram download not working? Fix it step by step
Troubleshoot an Instagram downloader that cannot resolve, preview or save a post. Diagnose private links, deleted posts, bad URLs, browser issues and rate limits.

Quick answer
When an Instagram download fails, first recopy the individual public post link. Then confirm the post still opens, the account is public, the link type is supported and the media was not deleted. Retry once after a short pause, then check browser downloads, storage, network and content-blocking settings.
Start by identifying where the download stops
| Symptom | Likely area | First check |
|---|---|---|
| Link rejected immediately | URL format | Copy the individual post link again |
| Post cannot be found | Visibility or deletion | Open the same URL directly in Instagram |
| Resolver keeps failing | Availability or temporary limits | Wait briefly and retry one public link |
| Preview appears but file does not save | Browser download behavior | Open the browser's Downloads list |
| File saves but will not open | Incomplete file or unsupported player | Check extension and download again |
| Only some carousel slides save | Multiple-download permission | Allow related downloads or save slides individually |
Fixes 1–5: verify the post and its link
Open the post itself
Confirm the URL leads to the individual photo, video, Reel or carousel—not a profile, hashtag, audio page or Direct conversation.
Copy a fresh link
Use Instagram's Share or options control and select Copy link. Paste the complete result without retyping the post identifier.
Check public visibility
A public-link downloader cannot resolve private accounts, Close Friends media or follower-only content. Being able to see a private post in your own session does not make it public.
Check whether it was removed
Open the URL in Instagram. A deleted post, deactivated account or removed collaboration no longer exposes the original media to a public resolver.
Match the supported content type
IGDownPro supports public Reels, feed videos, photos, carousels, legacy IGTV links and profile pictures. Active 24-hour Stories are not supported.
Fixes 6–8: rule out a temporary failure
Pause before retrying
Repeated rapid requests can meet anti-abuse limits on this site or upstream services. Wait a minute, then retry once instead of clicking continuously.
Switch network once
Instagram's own troubleshooting advice recommends comparing Wi-Fi and mobile data when connectivity may be the problem. Do not use a network change to evade service limits.
Try a current browser
Update Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Edge and reload the page. A stale tab, aggressive content blocker or disabled JavaScript can prevent the resolver interface from completing.
Fixes 9–12: find or complete the saved file
Open browser Downloads
A completed file may be in Downloads even when no gallery notification appeared. Check Safari's download control, Chrome Downloads or your device Files app.
Allow multiple files when expected
A carousel's Download all action may trigger the browser's related-file permission. Approve it only for the trusted page, or save each slide separately.
Check storage and filename
Make sure the device has free space and the result ends in a normal media extension such as .mp4 or .jpg. Do not open unexpected executable files.
Redownload an incomplete file
A broken connection can leave a partial file. Delete the incomplete copy and retry once on a stable connection.
What common error messages usually mean
- Invalid link: the pasted text is incomplete or is not a supported Instagram post/profile URL.
- Post unavailable: the post may be private, deleted, expired, restricted by audience or temporarily unavailable upstream.
- Too many requests: wait for the stated period; repeated clicks extend the problem rather than solving it.
- No media found: Instagram returned a page or post type the current resolver could not identify.
- Download blocked: the browser, content blocker, device policy or multiple-download permission prevented the file save.
When to report a problem
If Instagram itself cannot open, share or copy the post, update the app and use Instagram's official Report a Problem flow after basic network troubleshooting. Include the device, action and error without sending sensitive credentials.
If the post works normally in Instagram but a supported public link repeatedly fails in IGDownPro, use the site's Contact page. Include the content type and error wording. Do not send a password, session cookie or private media.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my Instagram downloader not working?
The most common causes are a profile URL instead of a post link, a private or deleted post, an unsupported active Story, a temporary rate limit, a browser download block or an incomplete network transfer.
Why does the Instagram link say post unavailable?
The post may be private, deleted, audience-restricted, expired or temporarily unavailable. Open the same URL in Instagram to distinguish a general post problem from a downloader problem.
Why did the Instagram file download but not appear in Photos?
Browsers often save into a Downloads folder first. On iPhone check Files → Downloads; on Android check Chrome Downloads or the Files app. You may then move or share the file into Photos or a gallery folder.
Why can I see a private post but the downloader cannot?
Your Instagram app is using an approved authenticated session. IGDownPro does not accept account sessions and resolves public media only.
Should I keep pressing Download after an error?
No. Recopy the URL and retry once. If a rate or upstream error appears, wait briefly. Repeated rapid requests can make temporary limits last longer.
