How to copy an Instagram link

Find and copy the correct Instagram link for a Reel, video, photo, carousel or profile on iPhone, Android and desktop browsers.

Quick answer

Open the specific Instagram post, Reel or carousel, tap or click its share/options control, and choose Copy link. For a profile picture, copy the profile URL or username. Paste that exact link into the matching Instagram downloader; a general profile link cannot identify a specific post.

Copy a post link on iPhone or Android

  1. Open the individual post

Tap the Reel, photo, video or carousel so the individual post is open. Do not remain on the profile grid.

  2. Open the share controls

Tap the paper-plane Share icon or the options menu shown with the post. Instagram may place Copy link directly in the share sheet.

  3. Choose Copy link

Tap Copy link. Instagram places the URL on your device clipboard; you do not need to select or retype it.

  4. Paste into the correct tool

Return to IGDownPro, press the input field, choose Paste and start the download. Keep the entire link, including its post code.

Copy an Instagram URL on a computer

On instagram.com, open the individual post and copy the complete address from the browser's address bar. You can also use the post's options menu and choose Copy link. Both methods should produce an Instagram URL containing the post identifier.

If the browser address still shows only instagram.com or the creator's profile, click the post once more to open its dedicated page. The correct address usually contains a path such as /p/, /reel/ or a legacy /tv/ path.

Five link-copying mistakes that cause download errors

  • Copying the profile URL instead of opening the individual post.
  • Copying text from the caption rather than using Copy link.
  • Pasting only part of the URL and removing the post code.
  • Using a direct-message, Explore, hashtag or audio-page URL.
  • Trying an active Story URL — Stories and Highlights are not supported.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Copy link on Instagram?

Open the individual post and use its Share or options control. Choose Copy link from the sheet. Instagram may change the button's position between app versions, but it remains part of the post sharing controls.

How do I copy an Instagram Reel link?

Open the Reel, tap Share, then choose Copy link. The resulting address normally contains /reel/ or /reels/ followed by the Reel's identifier.

Can I copy an Instagram link on a computer?

Yes. Open the individual post at instagram.com and copy the full URL from the browser address bar, or use the post options menu and choose Copy link.

Why does my Instagram link open a profile instead of a post?

You probably copied the account URL from the profile page. Open the specific grid item or Reel first, then copy its individual post URL.

Does copying a private Instagram link make it public?

No. Instagram's audience rules still apply. Only approved followers can view a private account's posts, even when someone shares the URL.
